ASSESSMENT
It is important to identify possible reasons for learning and developmental
difficulties. Through the process of assessment, the clinic team can
identify a child's strengths and weaknesses, and search for explanations
for their difficulties.
We use psychometric tests, rating scales, observations and interviews to
gather a broad range of information about relevant aspects of a child's
functioning. Assessments of cognitive ability cover areas such as verbal
reasoning, memory, visual-spatial skills, and attention. Measures of
reading, spelling, writing, maths, oral communication and listening skills
are obtained through tests of academic achievement.
At the end of the assessment process, we provide a detailed report
describing a child's strengths and weaknesses, and making recommendations
for appropriate interventions.
